How To Fit Your Helmet:
Step 1 - Measuring: Measure just above the eyebrows and just above the biggest part of the back of the head, over the bump.
Step 2 - Finding the right fit: Make sure the whole harness is outside of the helmet when putting on your helmet. When putting on your helmet make sure to gently rock the helmet on and it will glide over the hair much simpler.
Step 3 - Secure: Make sure the helmet does not easily glide over your skin. A tip to see if you helmet is a god fit is to have the helmet securely on your head, unbuckle, then lean over and rock your head back and forth to see if the helmet falls or slips. If the helmet does fall or slip, you might want to look at a more secure helmet or go to a smaller size.
When buckled, the harness should be tight enough that a finger width fits between
the harness and the chin and you are able to comfortably slide the finger from right ear to left ear without being too lose (more often the case) or too tight that the finger can't move.
Key Tips:
- Look for a snug fit
- Look for an even, firm pressure around the head
- That the helmet locks onto the back of the head
- That the helmet does NOT rock forwards or backwards
- No pressure points or gaps
Frequently Asked Questions/Recommendations:
- What if I want to wear my hair up inside my helmet? Answer: Check how much space there is at the base of the back of the helmet. If you long or thick hair, it is advised to go up a size to ensure proper fitting. Make sure when your hair is up, that the hair is not creating pressure on the back of your head. Fit your helmet with the hair down first. The helmet still has to fit the shape of your head well without your hair up. When your hair is up, always use a good quality hair net.
- Never get a bigger size for a child so they can grow into it. Because a helmet that doesn't fit your child's head properly at the moment of impact, is not going to provide adequate safety and protection.
- The maximum lifespan of an equestrian helmet is 5 years. Even without an accident, it is good practice to replace your helmet because of new technology and general wear and tear.
- How can I care for my helmet to give it the longest possible lifespan? Answer: When storing, avoid exposing your helmet to extreme conditions, such as heat, moisture, direct sunlight, or freezing temperatures.
